Roue Mecanum : rouleaux inclinés pour mouvement omni lourd

A Mecanum wheel mounts its rim rollers at 45°; the four wheels each spin forward or reverse, and their lateral forces combine into motion in any direction - a single wheel can only slide diagonally, but four coordinated wheels achieve full omnidirectional motion.

Quel problème cela résout

Omni wheels solved narrow-aisle strafing, but at several hundred kg payload, wheel count and roller wear become the problem. Mecanum angles the rollers at 45° so each wheel contributes both longitudinal and lateral thrust - heavier strafing stays stable.

Typical scenarios: 300kg+ spare-part transport on automotive lines, large-component docking in aerospace manufacturing, assembly cells needing precise positioning.

Idées reçues courantes

Misconception 1: Mecanum is fancier, so pick it first. Its edge is heavy load; for light indoor use, normal omni wheels cost less and are simpler to maintain.
Misconception 2: four omni wheels mean curbs are no problem. Angled rollers handle curbs even worse; slight floor undulation causes jitter and drift.
Misconception 3: bolt them on and it works. Mecanum wheels need four-wheel kinematic calibration; buying loose wheels and self-assembling often drives diagonally.
