Direction Ackermann : structure type voiture pour la vitesse extérieure

Ackermann steering is the car-style layout: front wheels steer, rear wheels drive, and the inner and outer wheels trace different-radius arcs when turning. It solves the wobbly, power-hungry high-speed differential problem - at the price of no in-place turning.

Quel problème cela résout

Differential and omni chassis suit low-speed indoor work, but once outdoor campus patrol and outdoor transport pick up speed, in-place differential steering gets floaty and power-hungry. Ackermann works like a small car: stable on high-speed straights, sensible turning radius, long endurance.

Typical scenarios: campus patrol, long-distance outdoor material transfer, inter-building unmanned delivery - indoor omni wheels cannot handle these runs.

Idées reçues courantes

Misconception 1: Ackermann = "a car chassis". It is a steering geometry; track, payload and sensors are a different world from real automobiles.
Misconception 2: no in-place turning is a big downside. In long-distance outdoor transport, turning radius vs. endurance efficiency - the latter matters far more.
Misconception 3: it runs on any outdoor surface. Steps, curbs and grass slopes need separate obstacle-climbing verification.
